Joy was such a special person and we are so saddened by her passing. She was my first friend when I moved to Florida and helped me learn a lot about Florida. She helped me learn about raising orchids and other plants. She introduced me to New Neighbors Club. She was such a joy to be around and always had a smile for everyone. We will miss her.

The World has lost a wonderful person. My deepest sympathy go out to Joy’s family during this difficult time. I am so glad that I met Joy through the New Neighbors Club. We had many good times, and I especially appreciated her advice to me when I was President of the Club and she was the Parliamentarian. She was fun to be around and it was a joy to work with her. She will be greatly missed. RIP Joy.

Dear Diane,
It was my pleasure to attend the wonderful BSO event featuring Sally Scalera at your mom’s lovely home – and how welcomed we all felt as she shared her treasures of plants and her beloved fauna with us. And I as I read her life story, I realized she truly epitomized her name and spread her joy and respect for all life wherever she went.
My condolences to you, your family, and to Phil.
Sincerely,

I send my heartfelt condolences to Joy’s family for the loss of their beloved mother and grandmother. Joy was a special friend, with a bright smile and a giving heart. She always gave more than she took and was loved by so many. One of the most precious gifts she shared with me was her daughter, Diane. We will remember you often, with smiles on our faces, dear friend!

Joy, You were always a special light in my life and I thought of you more as a sister than friend. You always lifted me up with your smile and positive attitude about everything in your life. You will be missed by so many people! But we will see each other again in Heaven.

Joy…perfect name for a perfect person. She would light up a room with her warm and beautiful smile. So generous, always wanting to do for others, always there to lend a hand. I remember her blushing when she would tell me about her travels with Phil and how happy she was. If only I could experience her JOY! I will miss her, until we meet again my friend.

Our heartfelt condolences to Joy’s three children, Phyllis, Diane & Jim, her sister Diane, grandson, James and son-in-laws Fred & Doug, nephew, Rob, and loving companion, Phil. As longtime close friends of Phyllis & Fred, we both had the privilege to share in some special family & friends times at “5830” — to us, “the always best place to gather together”, beautiful tropical paradise home in Miami where Joy & Jim, her late husband (& father of Phyllis, Diane, Jim) raised their family. We always remember “Joy”, as not only true to her name but always very welcoming and generous of her heart & home to us. We recall many wonderful meals cooked in their (which now seems even idyllic) “Florida room”, complete with indoor grill (often for cooking that day’s “catch”) and only glass sliding doors away from a relaxing pool surrounded by the most interesting and beautiful vegetation you can imagine. Guess we can all see where Phyllis may have had some of her early horticultural & other positive influences…& where she, Diane & Jim may have been inspired in so many other ways to be the good and loving people to all of us blessed to cross path with them…& to be such good stewards to our planet. We only hope that our dear friends & the rest of Joy’s loved ones continue to feel her beautiful spirit’s presence in the beauty of nature & are comforted by their knowing that their love for her -and hers for them–truly does transcend the physical.

We had the privilege of meeting Joy several times, but we mostly knew her through our friendship with Phyllis and Fred. As their friends, it is clear to us that Joy gave gifts to her children such as thoughtfulness for others and appreciation of nature and that her love will continue through their dedication and efforts.

Joy has been more than a sister to me. She has been my best friend and mentor. Our lives have been intertwined for most of our years. It is hard to imagine not having her as my sounding board although I know she will always be my guiding light.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Joy Dauble Cole today. I am a Kappa Delta sorority sister of her daughter, Diane Chasick. After reading about so many of Joy’s life’s achievements, I can definitely see why Diane is involved in so many activities and takes on so much responsibilities. She, like her mother, is a very capable person who doesn’t know how to say “no!” Rest in peace, Joy, and I know the angels in Heaven have welcomed another “angel” into their midst!
