Words can’t describe how much I loved my Uncle Roger. He was always such a kind, joyful and generous person, but even more so to my sister and me. Even though we always lived on opposite coasts, I always felt so close to him. I didn’t realize until now how much of an awesome pen pal he was. Always keeping in touch with us and showing us how much he loved us. He sent my sister and I so many gifts, that were just magical. As I’m sure everyone who ever got a gift from him knows, he had such a knack for giving you just the right things. He truly was an angel on this earth and I’ll miss him every single day.

Ah Roger. Too much to say. You were always the person that made me want to better. Sweeter than anyone I know. So much so that you got credit for the flowers I sent to my own mother that one Mother’s Day. She just assumed it was you. Hah. Remember, all dogs go to heaven so they’ll be up there too so “hands up!”

Only the good die young. While his mortal coil has been shed, the great soul that is Roger will remain in the hearts of all who knew him. First it will be an empty devastating tear in your heart. With time, the void heals over, making your heart stronger with the piece of it that grows from the memory of Roger to become the Roger chamber of your heart. When next you pray or meditate, know that Roger is in your circle and always will be when you look and listen for him. He will be the one sitting with you. Probably right next to you, ready to help with anything and everything.

Roger defined what it meant to be a friend. I’ve had the pleasure of knowing him for over 30 years. His loss was for me a death in the family. When my mother died, Roger was so kind and compassionate. In fact, on the anniversary of her death I always received a bouquet of roses in honor of my mother with a card from Roger which said, “Mom’s Rule.” These roses arrived every year until about five years ago. I knew something was wrong and it was because Roger was battling cancer. He fought a long and heroic battle against this insidious disease. But all battles eventually come to an end and it was his time to leave the Material World. His light may have gone out in our world but it shines brightly on the Other Side. It was an honor to know you my brother, and I will always remember you with love and laughter.

Roger’s sunny personality shines through in his obituary. His words bring comfort to all who mourn his passing. I had the privilege of knowing Roger in the mid to late 1990’s when we both worked in NASA Payloads. He was a knowledgeable, kind, and patient mentor to a small group of engineers learning MS Access 2.0. All the heartfelt expressions of sympathy are evidence that Roger’s friendliness, happiness, and optimism endeared people to him. That is a notable legacy! My deepest condolences to the Pierce family.

Hey You! Though Tom and I moved back home to Ohio we always stayed in touch via Facebook and Christmas cards! Such wonderful memories of your loving smile, hugs and positive attitude through the years – and long distance hugs while I battled breast cancer. I shall miss you dear friend, though our lord has you in his loving arms and you are at peace.

What Roger! It was great working with you at NASA – you’re a bright star of joy. Always enjoyed shooting the breeze with you while working on SW. Btw when you see Shirley tell her I miss her. I still have the picture that she gave me all those years ago, the care Bears that we gave her while she was sick. I you wish peace and gods speed to next adventure.
Ps I forgot you went to WPHS also.

Roger, you were a selfless and giving friend. Always with a smile or a chuckle and a positive attitude. You provided me with support at work and in my personal life that I will always treasure. You will be missed. Until we see each other again, my friend, keep a nearby seat at the table ready for me. I’m sure we’ll have plenty to chat about.

Rog – it was a pleasure getting to know you as a coworker and friend. I knew I could always count on you for good cheer and relentless positivism. I was delighted to discover a mutual passion in origami, an art you quickly became an expert in and shared with the rest of us. You created some beautiful modular pieces that any origami art exhibition would be proud to display. I appreciated your refined palate when going out to lunch, you always knew the best places! Thank you so much for teaching me the importance of taking care of myself and others, and the power of optimism. I’ll miss you.
Thank you for being my friend.
