Obituary of Edward William “Uncle” Finn
Edward William GÇ£UncleGÇ¥ Finn, 81, died August 19,2014. He was born April 12, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY to Edward and Anastasia Ingersoll Finn. When he was five, the family moved to Maspeth, Queens and then later to Bayville, Long Island.
After serving honorably in the US Army, he worked in the aerospace industry for Pan Am and Boeing, rising to the position of Chief Systems Engineer for the E4 Airborne Command Post for the President of the United States. He traveled the world along side many presidents including Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, and Bill Clinton. His illustrious career led him to relocate to Maryland and then to Omaha, Nebraska for many years before retiring to Florida in 1995.
Uncle actively participated in the American Legion and the Forty and Eight and was passionate about trains as well as stamp and coin collecting. His zeal for travel extended from his professional life to his personal life, enjoying vacations with his sisters and their children to many interesting places. Notwithstanding his many accomplishments, time with family was most important to him. He was a devoted older brother to his three sisters and a cherished uncle to all his nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and nephews. His love of family extended to cousins and friends. A fun loving man with a generous heart and a positive spirit, he welcomed many into his life.
GÇ£Uncle’sGÇ¥ family includes his sister, Maryann DeGaynor of Central Islip, NY; nieces and nephews, Diane Beadle of Melbourne, Michael Fleming Palm Bay, Thomas Fleming of Palm Bay, James Fleming of Charlotte, NC, Edward Fleming of Suwanee, GA, Nancy Peterson of Palm Bay, Debra LaRosa of Palm Bay, Patricia Peterson-Harrold of Endicott, NY, William DeGaynor of Hauppauge, NY, and Theresa Sisco of Benson, AZ; and many great nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Anastasia Fleming and Elizabeth Peterson and his niece, Mary Beth Corcoran.
Arrangements entrusted to Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 1001 S. Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL (321) 724-2222.His Funeral Mass, followed by military honors. is at 11:00 am on Friday, August 22, 2014 at Ascension Catholic Church, 2950 N. Harbor City Boulevard, Melbourne, FL 32935.
Burial will be at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL
