Obituary of Margie A. Aki Salis
Margie A. Aki Salis (Mama) was born December 1, 1936 in Kona, Hawaii and lost her fight with cancer on May 19, 2018.
Margie was married for 35 years to Lawrence Salis, her sweetheart, after he returned from WWII. They raised five children, Noah Salis (Donna), Pinky (Zacarylynn) Salis, Lawrene Rasmussen, Kim Greenspan (Steven) and their adopted granddaughter, Shenell Salis (Alex) Baker in Kohala, Hawaii.
Mama retired from the Hilton Hotel, Waikoloa, Hawaii as a Pantry Chef after 35 years. While working at the Hilton, she was a Steward for the ILWU Union. Mama moved to Florida in 2005 and made a home with Shenell, Alex, and Alika Baker (great grandson) and Kathleen Baker. She loved gardening and had a huge yard to plant her flowers and plants. Mama loved to play the slot machines and enjoyed trips to Vegas and the Hard Rock in Tampa. Her pride and joy was watching her great grandson, Alika Baker, grow into a fine young man.
She is survived by her five children, Noah, Pinky, Lawrene, Kim and Shenell; grandchildren, Shane Salis, Kaniala Salis, Mandy Meiling Salis, Keoni Rasmussen, Mana Rasmussen, Joshua Greenspan, Henry Greenspan and her great grandchildren Alika Baker and Tate Salis, the newest addition to the family, who she got to see in January on her trip the Big Island of Hawaii. Mama also has one surviving sibling, her brother, Archie Aki (Uncle Sonny).
Mama will be missed by everyone who knew her and loved her stories, sense of humor and love of life.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
