Obituary of Richard George Mebus

Richard George Mebus, age 83, passed on Saturday, January 11, 2014. Born in Detroit, Michigan he moved to Orlando in 1980 from Memphis, Tennessee and then to Melbourne in 1984. A retired US Marine Corps, Gunnery Sergeant, he received a Purple Heart with a Gold Star. He later spent 12 years as a Air Traffic Controller. He retired from Johnson Controls in 1995. His family includes his wife, Norma Mebus; children, Richard (Betty) Blythe, Patricia Gray, Darce Lee Mebus, Dana Martin (Gayla) Mebus, Virgil (Onelia) Zurbruegg and Dean Mebus; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. A memorial service will be Friday, January 24, 2014 at 7pm at Calvary Baptist Church, 2980 North Wickham Road, Melbourne FL 32935. He will be buried, with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Donations in his memory may the Calvary Baptist Church Building Fund or to the Gideons International.
