Obituary of Thomas Lee Sego

Thomas Sego was born on a Thursday – March 29th, 1934 in Augusta, Georgia – the middle child and only son to John Laurie and Amy Whitlock Sego. Beloved brother of since deceased sisters, Virginia Craig of Greenville, SC and Ethel Capps of Wilmington, NC. Later in childhood, the family moved to Wilmington, NC. After graduating from New Hanover High School, he went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree and also his FCC license with aspirations to pursue a career in radio. His life’s direction took him along other pathways and he enlisted in the US Air Force, where he proudly served our nation, devoting 25 years of service – incredibly never missing one day’s work due to illness. During his enlistment, he enjoyed numerous accomplishments and achievements – receiving ongoing accolades from his superiors and continued promotions through his career. Because of his example, his sole grandchild – a grandson, went on to enlist in the military himself, currently serving in the US Army, part of the distinguished Honor Guard, aka Old Guard, in our nation’s capitol. His core role during his time of service was electronic technician – a role which took him, and his family, abroad – across the continental United States, and to Germany, Thailand – and South Korea. It was here, in 1962 – just months after his mother’s untimely passing from a tragic accident, when he met the love of his life and the extraordinary woman who went on to become his wife, with whom he would share 55 years of life together. Then in 1966, their family grew by one when they adopted their only child. In his non-work life, Tom pursued studies to strengthen his Christian walk. During the 70’s he received numerous certifications from the Moody Bible Institute on various topics. He became an ordained deacon and also served as Music Director at Trinity Baptist Church in Baumholder, Germany and later in Lockmar Church in Palm Bay, during its pioneer, inception years. Tom’s life’s passions were: God, his family, music and things technical. He committed all areas of his life to serving God’s kingdom – leading by example, demonstrating by his life – being a role model of a godly man who loved his Savior. In his down time, his hobbies included enjoying great music – typically the classics from Big Band years, classical genre and also traditional and present day Christian hymns and songs. To his family, you could set your watch during the week when he would be found enjoying the evening news after a work day. He also enjoyed reading books – whether Christian themes or various mystery novels from renowned authors. Ever fascinated with technology, he thoroughly enjoyed the evolution of computer technology, including building one himself from scratch, courtesy of the NCI. Tom’s family was always paramount to him. He worked diligently to be a provider and the best husband and father possible – striving to ensure their happiness and well being. He would apply himself with integrity and excellence to full-time work days, in turn applying that same level of excellence to needs of the household – building, maintaining and the like. Any and all who knew him – were very aware of his strong work ethic, integrity and deep faith in God. Until his very last days, Tom could recall favorite scriptures or lyrics to a favorite hymn. It brought him great comfort and joy to continue partake in his daily morning devotional time that he would start each day with his cherished wife and had for countless years. Viewing will be Friday, February 10 from 9 am until time of service at 11 am at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 950 Malabar Rd, Palm Bay.  Interment with full military honors at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery following service.
