Obituary of George Clifford Hanson

George Clifford Hanson, 87, passed away Thursday, June 15th, 2017 at home. George leaves behind his wife of 63 yrs, Lorraine (Pedersen) Hanson; his 8 children, Christopher Hanson, Carolyn Hanson, Susan Schmidt (Drew), Patricia Hanson, Pamela Hanson (P.K. Reilly), Lorraine Rendon (Fernando), Karen Jellison, Juliet Rebelo (Cy); 13 grandchildren, Brad Grant (Debbie), Eva Algermissin (Patrick), Daniel Schmidt(Shay), David Schmidt (Lindsay), Katie Jackson, Brittany Jellison, Jessica Hanson, Joshua Jennings, Patricia Rendon, Dylan Jellison, Christopher Jennings, Molly Rendon, Lauren Rebelo and 6 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Anastasia, Wesley, Jackson, Daciana and Wolfgang. George spent his early years where he was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY with his parents, George and Mary Hanson, along with his extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. George loved playing baseball with his cousins, Tom, John, George and Danny Ryan, so much so, he played with the minor league for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a devote Catholic, being an Altar server until the age of 21 at Holy Family Church in Brooklyn, NY. After graduating High School, George enlisted into the Army National Guard, where he served his first term as a guardsman from 1949-1955 (Second term 1977-1983). He met Lorraine at a friend’s birthday in 1953 and in 1954 they were married. They had Chris, Carolyn and Susan in NY before moving their family to New Jersey where Patty, Pam, Lorraine and Karen were born. An auto accident then brought the family south to Rockledge, Florida where their last child Julie was born. They quickly grew to love their community and became life-long members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. George was a member and 4th Degree with the Knights of Columbus for over 50 yrs, beginning in New Jersey and continuing when the family moved to Rockledge. He will be missed by his fellow brother Knights. George’s proud achievements include; working with the citizens of the Brevard Achievement Center and with helping seniors find jobs through BCC SCEP program. George enjoyed painting, history and theater performing. He loved his New York Giants, L.A. Dodgers and his Irish Heritage. He was passionate about his family and embraced everyday with a quick-witted sense of humor. George and Lorraine spent the last 9 yrs living at Westminster Asbury in Cocoa, where they enjoyed enormous laughs with many friends. The family would like to thank all their friends and family for the love and support through this difficult time. Funeral service and Celebration of Life with Reception Monday June 19th, 2017. Viewing will take place at 1:30 PM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:30 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1152 Seminole Dr, Rockledge, FL, (Interment immediately following mass.) Reception will take place at 5 PM at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 3435 Fiske Blvd, Rockledge, FL 32955.
