Obituary of Alice Irene Dow-Boorom
Alice Irene Dow Boorom, born on November 29, 1932 in Loxa, IL. She passed away at 9:05 a.m. on Friday, August 1, 2014 in Rockledge, FL. She was one of seven children to Ruby Sharp Dow and Orville Dow.
She married George Thomas Boorom on November 11, 1948. He was her childhood sweetheart and they were inseparable. He preceeded her in death in August 2000. She became a Christian in 1957 shortly after her husband George did. The entire family became Christians by 1965.
Alice is survived by five children, Thomas Boorom, Bonnie Youngblood, George C. Boorom, Gary Boorom, and Melodie Holland; nine grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty O’Dell; and brother, David Dow. Her eldest daughter, Janice Tadlock, preceeded her in death.
She was diagnosed in 1959 with Multiple Sclerosis in El Paso, TX after being sent there from Alamogordo, NM. She was a wife, mother and homemaker while raising six children and dealing with her progression of MS. She loved her old hymnals and patriotic music as well as her country music favorites, John Denver and Glen Campbell. Her other favorites were Charlie Pride, George Beverly Shea, and Kenny Rogers, just to name a few.
Later in her life, as her eyesight began to fail, she loved having Bible scripture read to her as well as the Daily Bread. She also loved having her great granddaughter, Cassandra, read to her and share snacks and special times together.
Alice loved her roses, tulips, cards, and balloons, as well as many other gifts brought to her to celebrate birthdays and other special events. Everyone who knew her at the center where she lived knew her as the lady who loved her bit-o-honey and was not willing to give it up when the time came that she had to due to her health.
When she first moved to the center, she loved to go out to the different outings they had planned, such as shopping, restaurants, the zoo, etc. Her daughter, Melodie would accompany her as well as her granddaughters, Candice and Kristina when able to. As time went on and her health deteriorated more, she enjoyed her music more and more and would put her headphones on and sing out loud to John Denver and Glen Campbell. She would laugh hysterically when her daughter, Melodie would join in and play air guitar while she sang!
Alice was a strong and tough woman as she had to be to face the many roads ahead of her with MS. She will forever be remembered and loved by those who came to know her and love her as she touched so many lives. Part of her legacy is helping in the research for a cure for MS as a donor to MS research in CA.
The best thing that she and her husband ever did was to introduce their family to Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We have the assurance that we will all be together again one day in Heaven.
We would like to thank those in the medical community at Rockledge Health and Rehab Center and Hospice of St. Francis for their devoted care of Alice. Your expert care and devotion to her was a testament of your professionalism and love for her and is greatly appreciated.
