Obituary of James Joseph Chiaverini

James Chiaverini (Jim), 74, of Melbourne, Florida, went to be with the Lord on December 10, 2015. Born in Yonkers, NY, he was a loving husband and devoted father. Jim loved sports, especially baseball. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan and he loved the New York Giants. As a child in Yonkers, NY, Jim made newspaper headlines for pitching no-hitters on multiple occasions. Jim and Carol raised their family in Higganum, CT, which is a village in the township of Haddam, CT. Jim was very active in his community. He coached baseball at many levels for over 20 years, including little league and senior league. He started the Haddam-Killingworth American Legion, and coached that team for many years. He also served as president of the Haddam Little League and the Higganum Athletic Association. During their time in Haddam, Jim and his family were original members of Valley Bible Evangelical Free Church. Jim and Carol are currently members of Faith Fellowship Evangelical Free Church in Melbourne, FL. Jim enlisted in the United States Army and served for three years after graduating from High School. He was stationed in Korea. Jim began working as a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in 1966 in Scarsdale, NY and transferred to Middletown, CT in 1968, where he worked until his retirement in 1994. While working for the postal service, Jim was an active member and served as Vice President of the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Connecticut Merged Branch 20. Through the postal service Jim was very active in raising funds for Muscular Dystrophy. He had the opportunity to present the donation check from the Middletown Letter Carriers to Jerry Lewis on the Jerry Lewis Telethon. He is survived by his wife Carol, and sister Angela Pagano of Ormond Beach, daughters Ann Carangelo of Merritt Island, Michelle Piccerillo of Cheshire, CT, son Timothy Chiaverini and Daughter in-law Lara Chiaverini of Colchester, CT, and eight grandchildren, Cassandra Carangelo of Shelton, CT, Jessica Carangelo of Hollywood, FL, James, Elias and Nicolas Chiaverini of Colchester, CT, and John, Ryan and Samantha Piccerillo of Cheshire, CT, and nephews Anthony, David and Daniel Pagano. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Antoinette Chiaverini, and sisters Barbara Timlin and Jean Chiaverini.
