Obituary of Mary Chapman Sims
The world shed a tear as it said goodbye to Mary Chapman Sims on Friday, July 20, 2018 in Rockledge, Florida. She was 83.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Mary grew up with four brothers and one sister. In July of 1954, she relocated to Rockledge, Florida where she and her son Gene shared a happy home with her sister Becky and Becky’s daughter, Lucy. In March of 1959 Mary married the love of her life, C.W. Sims. In 1960, her 2nd son Kelly was born and the family settled in Cocoa.
After an interesting and fulfilling career, Mary retired from IBM in Cape Canaveral where she was a service dispatcher and later an accounts receivable collector.
The only thing bigger and brighter than her broad Birmingham smile was her heart. She adored her husband and loved her family and her many, many friends. Any stranger Mary met, she immediately considered a future friend. She was a very vocal supporter of the Mighty Fightin’ Cocoa Tigers, the Alabama Crimson Tide, the University of South Florida Bulls and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Mary was a loving and caring devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her two sons Gene, wife Becky, and Kelly, wife Lori, 3 grandchildren, Christopher, Jacob, and Sarah; and 4 Great grandchildren Colton, Lucas, Scarlett, and Annabelle. Predeceased by her husband CW, and her 5 siblings, Becky, Bud, Bill, JB, and Bob.
Mary would not want you to be sad! So, grab a good friend; go out for a good breakfast and a fantastic day of shopping. Mary would be pleased!
A service celebrating her life will be held 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31st at Prince of Peace Anglican Church located at 6895 Murrell Rd, Melbourne, FL 32940.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Oh! And one last thing . . . we’ll all miss your cornbread, Mom!
