I will miss Joe a lot. Sometimes at a glance I will think I see him walking up 1st street to Gulf Beach to check the Surf and hang out and hoping he would stop by the shop on his way back or come back at the end of the day to tell stories and drink beer and play records. A great guy with an adventurous spirit. Hearing his stories would make me want to get off the couch and go somewhere and do something. I never saw it coming. I wish I had. Gone too soon. R.I.P. JOE !

A great childhood friend who was always a blast to be around. Surfing with him was never just another day on the waves as well as the many days on Olsen Field in our early baseball days on the Fireman. Part of many great memories of Satellite Beach. A fantastic person who touched many early in his life as I’m sure he continued to do till his final days. God Speed Joe!

I was on TDY when I met Joe on Ascension in 1998. We hit it off & were together for 5 years. Many good memories, Keys with his wonderful kids Michelle and Derek. NJ to visit the kids – loved his children with everything he had. Dinners at Ben & Betty’s. Christmas at Cindy’s, Jimmy Buffett with sister Susie where Joe had a “conversation with Jimmy Buffet,” Predator game with brother Matt where we were on “kiss cam”. Had to go to Bithlo where I came home with a face & scalp full of tar! had to have pit passes baby -haha! Magic basketball games where we got on camera with our sign “hello from Ascension Island.” Hilarious rounds of Daytona 500 board game with his family, cribbage and they liked it so much his father made a cribbage board for 4 players! His funny phrases & one liners, the crazy excitement when we went fishnin, his bust out loud laugh when something was really funny, passion for surfing, the ocean and outdoors in general. And many more memories. I never knew what he would say or do next sometimes, but he always told me he was a simple man who wanted a simple life. He loved deeply and was deeply loved. My sincere heartfelt condolences to the Boman Family, r.i.p. Joey, your memory will live on………

BoBo was one of Ascension’s specialities, a true character. My over riding memory was New Years Day and the Pierhead Jump. As others timidly climbed over the railings to hesitate nervously before jumping off, BoBo cleared a path took a 20 yard run and somersaulted over the top of the railings into the sea!! Lovely man who will be missed by all. Condolences to his family.

BoBo and I worked in the same building at the Cape for about a year. I enjoyed talking to him then, and also during my many short trips to Ascension over the years. I don’t think that I had ever heard BoBo talk bad about anybody. If he happened to work with somebody whose work ethics or personal views differed from his, he wouldn’t talk bad about the person. The worst I ever heard him say was something along the line of: “He’s OK, We just don’t agree on a lot of things.” I’ll miss seeing you around BoBo….
