Evelyn Eissler

Obituary of Evelyn S. Eissler

Evelyn S. Eissler, age 98, of Melbourne, Florida passed away on Friday, January 10, 2020 at Vitas In-Patient Center in Rockledge. Evelyn was born on May 8, 1921 in Lakewood, New Jersey to Richard and Adele Schoonmaker. Evelyn spent her early years traveling the entire east coast of the United States with her family. She lived in high end resort hotels because her father was a well-known Chef Steward for these hotels. They traveled from as far north as Maine to Palm Beach at the Breakers Hotel and to as far west as the famous Camelback Inn in Arizona. While her father was in charge of feeding fancy 7 course meals to guests in these resorts, Evelyn got quite an education meeting distinguished people from all backgrounds. During World War II, while living in Palm Beach, Florida, riding her beloved bike, she delivered Western Union telegrams around Palm Beach from the soldiers at war to their families. Evelyn’s favorite activity was being a trapeze artist.  In her colorful life, she was a radio actress for a while in New York City. This was during a time before televisions became a household staple.  She did many acting and commercials for the radio station. While the Eissler family lived on Patrick Air Force Base where her children attended school, they met other children who had been stationed around different parts of the world. She is survived by her daughters Michele Willman and Renee Eissler, a pioneer and legend in the surfing world.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Taylor Willman and Jessica Willman. She was preceded in death by her husband Alan, her son Barry and her parents Richard and Adele Schoonmaker. Evelyn was a great mother and wife and will be missed dearly.
