Obituary of Eugene “Gene” Nees

Eugene (Gene) Nees passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2019 at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, FL with his loving wife Pauline by his side. Born December 29, 1937 at his family home in Mode, Illinois to Homer and Catherine Nees. Gene was a member of the 1956 graduating class of Shelbyville Community Unit High School located in Shelbyville, IL. He married his high school sweetheart Pauline Klinghammer on July 11, 1957 and they sadly divorced on October 31, 1958. Love prevailed in the end when their worlds reconnected in 1976. They were remarried on February 10, 1980. Gene was drafted into the United States Army in October of 1961 and was Honorably Discharged in September 1963. He was given the MOS of the Military Police and was designated for assignment in Vietnam as part of some the first ground forces in country. Upon discharge Gene rejoined his family in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He started a career at Wire Products where he worked for 34 years. After retiring in 1999, Gene and Pauline relocated to Melbourne, FL. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8191, and was an active member in the American Legion for both Fort Lauderdale Post 222 and Melbourne Post 163. He held all offices except for Commander and Chaplain and was an intricate part of the Color Guard. Gene was predeceased by his mother Catherine, father Homer and older brother Charles. Survivors include his loving wife Pauline of Melbourne, FL, Son Timothy Frazier and his wife Heidi of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his daughter, Paula Stohr and husband Keith of Satellite Beach, FL; One Nephew Rick Delman and his wife Melissa of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Sister Betty Delman of Fort Lauderdale. Grandchildren Bradley Stohr and wife Lina of Portland, TX; Tyler Stohr and wife Jennifer of Jacksonville, FL; Olivia Stohr and fiancé Garrett Loparto of Orleans, MA; and Talon Frazier of Fort Lauderdale, FL. Great grandchildren Wyatt Stohr, Mia Stohr, Deacon Loparto and Maelyn Stohr. Blessed with many friends who loved him dearly. His Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 10, 2019 at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, located at 1001 South Hickory Street, Melbourne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gene’s honor to Project Suds America.
