Obituary of Jose Roberto Medina
Roberto Medina, 85, longtime Palm Bay business owner, proud father, grandfather and great grandfather, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at OPIS Indian River Center.
Roberto was born June 6, 1934 in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico and was raised in an orphanage. He learned the skill of barbering at the Insular School for Boys in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico and migrated to New York City in the 1950’s where he opened his first business and met his wife of 59 years Josephine Medina.
Roberto and Josephine moved to Palm Bay in 1987 and together they established Roberto’s Barbershop, one of the first Latino Barbers in our community. Roberto’s Barbershop later moved to the Metro West Shopping Center in West Melbourne. Many of his clients loved his style and flare of haircuts, and several barbers that worked with him later went on to become business owners themselves. Roberto & Josephine worshipped at EL Faro Church in Melbourne.
A loving and devoted Father, he is survived by his two sons J. Robert (Rob) Medina, wife Lissette Medina, Edgar R. Medina and wife Elizabeth Medina, grandchildren, Robert L. Medina, Alexandria Medina, Breanna Casanova, Melissa Medina, Alison Medina, Edgar A. Medina, Samantha Medina, and step grandchildren DaJuan Archie, Teara Mia Esposito, Greatgrandchildren Giovannia R. Medina, Alianna Addisyn Medina, Elijah Lee Medina, Kingsley Cassiel Medina, Ileana Arbelo, Kyler Vazquez, Avery Vazquez, Addisyn Tucker, Lane Tucker, Kiernan Medina and step great grandchildren Aubrey Hayden Sanborn, Elias Guerrier, Jesiah McAlister, Zamir Kipp and countless other children and young adults he mentored.
The celebration of life will be conducted on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care located at 950 Malabar Road SE, Palm Bay, Florida 32907. Roberto & Josephine Medina will be interred together at Fountainhead Memorial Cemetery immediately after service.
