Obituary of Joseph David Fliss
Joseph David Fliss, age 86, of Buffalo, NY, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and devoted man of service, passed away on April 1st 2020 in Melbourne, FL.
Born April 6th 1933 in Buffalo, NY, Joe started, at a young age, devoting his life to helping others by joining the National Guard as a Tank Commander. He then went on to dedicate 38 years to the Erie County Sheriff’s Department where he rose to the rank of Captain. Proudly, he was a crucial part of President Nixon’s task force.
Through his later years, Joe continued his public service volunteering with Florida’s Sheriff’s Department and local hospitals.
A man known for his kind heart, Joe also founded and contributed to many charities and organizations throughout his life. Notable accomplishments such as being a key member of the Riverside Jaycee’s as well as a Co-founder of the Riverside Athletic Club, his passion for helping others cast a wide net.
Joe will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, continuous service to his community, and his gift to deliver the perfect joke.
He’s survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Frances (DiCarlo), his sister Helen (Larry) Guszkowski, and his children Janet (late Frank) Vaccaro-Wojowski, Lucinda (Michael) Zambito, and Joseph (Kathy) Fliss. His loving remembrance will be kept alive by his grandchildren Deanna, Krista, Dena, Michelle, Tara, Joey, and his great grandchildren Katelyn, Christopher, Natalie, Ethan, Jack, Gavin, Cason, Lucas, Mallory, and Ella.
A celebration of life will be held in Buffalo at a later date.
