Obituary of Anthony Sgroi

Born Antonino Sgroi on February 22, 1930, known by family and friends as Anthony, Tony, or Nino, passed away on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the age of 88 peacefully with his wife, Norma Jean at his side. Born in Brooklyn, NY he was a carpenter by trade for many years. Opened his own business and continued his trade also working on Manhattan loft renovations. He moved to Florida December, 2017 for health reasons. He served in the United States Army as a Medical Tech during the Korean War August 1951-August 1953 and then went on to reserve duty for 6 years. He was a strong willed child who continued to grow up as a man full of meaning in his life. He was very devout in his faith; he loved the Lord and loved to spread the word. He praised the Lord for everything he had and continued to pray for everyone he shared his life with along the way. His family and friends remember a man they could count on for support and prayer. He never forgot the needs of others and always offered to pray in that moment. When he met Norma Jean Burgents he was smitten and they married in February, 1959. The life they shared was a love story. She called him hubby and he called her Norma Jean or Sweetie. They took weekends and visited gardens and places of interest. They were married 59 ¾ years when he passed. He had a few little phrases that all the nieces and nephews knew, Good night shirt, for Pete’s sake, and praise the Lord. He was a loving and devoted husband, brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean; and numerous nieces, nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Salvatore and mother Antonina as well as brothers; Salvatore (Estelle), Santo (Rose), and sister, Nancy (Danny). Funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 8th, 2019 at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care 1001 S.
