Obituary of Edgar William Bonee
Edgar William Bonee, Jr., age 97, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019.
He was born on March 27, 1921 to Molly & Edgar Bonee Sr. on a houseboat in Olmstead, Illinois. Ed grew up in Terra Haute, Indiana with his five sisters, Billy Pierce, Maxine Cartwright, Geraldine Heck, Betty Holloway and Roxanne Hawkins.
Ed met his wife, Helen Howell at Otter Creek, he was 17 and she was 15. The two lovebirds had their first date on July 4th where they watched the fireworks from Helen’s front porch. The two dated and married 5 years later on April 25, 1942.
He was drafted into the United States Army as a ski trooper in the 15th mountain division. Ed traveled to Italy and Germany where he fought during WWII. When he returned to the US after the war, he took a job as a coal miner in Indiana.
He was given the opportunity to work in the automotive industry in Flint, Michigan. The pair moved their family to Oriole drive in the Kearsley area and would spend over 50 years there. They loved their “bird-land neighborhood and their special neighbors. Ed went on to have a lifelong career as a welder with General Motors and retired in the early 80’s.
Ed enjoyed tinkering around his garage, fishing, bowling, snowmobiling and spending time with family and friends.
Ed is survived by the loving wife of 76 years Helen; two children, Sherry Bonee-Ross of Melbourne, Florida and Terry Bonee of Warren, New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Bill Ross, of Flint, Michigan, Amy (Ben) Chapman of Flushing, Michigan and Heidi (Sean) Tate of Indialantic, Florida; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Ed had many wonderful sisters, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Ed was a faithful member of Richfield Road Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan for over 61 years.

Ed will be laid to rest at 10am on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, 5525 US Highway 1, Mims, Florida.
