Obituary of Lucy V. Walters
Lucy Vaughan Walters, departed earthly life on August 27, 2019. Lucy was born August 4, 1925 in Bertie County, North Carolina. She was the adopted daughter of Nell and David Lawrence Myers of Ahoskie, NC. Lucy graduated from Lenore High School in Kinston, NC in 1942, attended Chowan College in Murphreesboro, NC for one year before entering nursing school as an Army Nurse Cadet at North Carolina Baptist Hospital (now Wake Forrest University) in Winston Salem, NC, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1946. As World War II had just ended, she was not called to active duty with the Army Nurse Corps.
Lucy worked as a registered nurse specializing in obstetrics, maternity and neonatal care at Wesley Long Community Hospital in Greensboro, NC for over 30 years. She was very proud of being part of the arrival of almost 2,000 babies during her nursing career.
She is proceeded in death by her husband of 64 years, Floyd Perry Walters, of Greensboro, NC and their daughter, Martha Dawn Walters, also of Greensboro, NC.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Captain and Mrs. Lawrence J. Walters, of Melbourne, FL; four grandchildren, Kristina Dawn Walters Gower of Springfield, PA, Dr. Meghan Gail Walters Branham of Sumter, SC, Heidi Marie Duppstadt Archer, of Derry, NH and Erik Adam Duppstadt of Rock Hill, SC; and three great grandchildren, C.J. (3), Logan (9) and Haley (10).
She was a member of the College Place Methodist Church of Greensboro, NC, from 1948 and a charter member of the “Price Young Married Couples Sunday School Class.”
Following their retirement in the mid-1980’s, Lucy and Perry spent many years traveling the U.S. in their R.V., making friends across the country. From the early 1990’s until 2010, they spent their winters at Craig’s RV Park in Arcadia, FL.
Lucy and Perry will have their ashes interred together at Green Hill Cemetery in Greensboro, NC at a later date.
