Obituary of Frederick Wesley “Wes” Chasteen
Frederick Wesley Chasteen “Wes”, 80, of Palm Bay, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Known by his family and friends as Wes, he was born on September 24, 1939 in Lake City, Florida to Hugh Franklin Chasteen and Gail Crandall Chasteen, both of whom preceded him in death. He was the youngest of eight children, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, racing, and was an avid Florida Gators football fan.
After graduating from high school, Wes joined the United States Coast Guard, where he served 9 years, earning the rank of Electrician’s Mate Petty Officer 1st Class. He then embarked on a long career of being a sub-contractor for numerous telecom technology companies, affording him the opportunity to travel all over the world.
He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Susan; his ex-wife Jean Dussubieux, daughter Pua Haight (Rob); son, Jon Chasteen; ex-wife, Lori Kelchner; daughter, Leslie Thomson (Eric); step-children, Howard Grodin (Dana) and Lisa Santa Croce (Kevin). He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Christopher Bayot, Joshua Haight, Jordan Chasteen, Joshua Ramos, Brenna Thomson, Chastina Ramos, Cole Thomson, Genna Grodin, Joshua Santa Croce and Lily Grodin, as well as 3 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sisters Katherine and Nancy and brother John.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his infant son, Frederick Chasteen Jr., and his daughter, Barbara Ramos, as well as siblings Hugh, Vera, Bobby and David.
The family is planning a celebration of life to be held at a later date.
