Obituary of John “Jack” Frank Swellie
John +óGé¼+ôJack+óGé¼-¥ Frank Swellie, 88, of West Melbourne, FL and East Otis, MA and formerly of West Springfield, MA died April 23, 2015 at his home in West Melbourne, FL.
He was a World War II veteran who served in Germany and recently participated in the Honour Flight in Washington, DC. He was a member of the Bricklayers Local 1 Union and the International Bricklayers Union and was a talented craftsman. He loved the game of golf and was a member of the Blandford Country Club in MA and the Palm Gardens Golf Association in West Melbourne. He was involved in many Hollywood Estates activities. Jack loved all sports and was an avid fisherman. He found much joy spending time with family and sharing his love of fishing. His sense of humor was unmatched and he will be remembered by his kindness, humility and warm smile.
He will be remembered fondly by his loving family; his wife of 36 years, Helen Small Swellie, his children Sandra Swellie Fiedler and husband Norman Fiedler of Westfield, MA, Robert C. Swellie of Lakewood, OH and Helen’s children Debra Small Black and husband Greg Black of Dalton, MA, Jim Small of Cape Coral, FL, Joanne Small McGuire and husband Rick McGuire of Cape Coral, FL, son in law Ron Schmidt of West Springfield, MA and his grandchildren Matt Swellie, Andy Swellie, Erik Swellie, Elsie Grady Carrier, Ryan Grady, Matt Rider, Julie Rider, Amanda Schmidt Shulman, Allison Schmidt, Tim Schmidt, Jeff McGuire and Jason McGuire. He was also deeply loved by several great grandchildren Riley, Delaney, AJ, Levi, Owen, Chloe, Cameron, Megson, Blake, Shea, Maddie and Emmie.
He was predeceased by his parents Albert E. Swellie and Gladys Fairbanks Swellie, his brother Robert E. Swellie and stepdaughter Sharon Small Schmidt.
A memorial service is planned in MA this summer at the Blandford Country Club followed by a memorial service in the fall in West Melbourne, FL.
