Obituary of Iralyn Delores Haig-Trott

Iralyn Delores Haig-Trott was born September 26, 1933 in the Black River Hospital in Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica, West Indies.  We celebrate the life of this beautiful servant of God. She was the first born of two girls.  Iralyn's parents,  "A well beloved Pastor" – Dr. Albert Randolph Haig (affectionately called "Uncle Bertie" by little children and "Little Pepper" because of his "fiery sermons") and his beloved wife, Marion Louise Haig a "godly matriarch" who served God well beside her husband. (Both parents are deceased).  Iralyn dearly loved her baby sister Myrnelle Haig.  She affectionately called her "Merns".  She loved "Merns" children "Alese and Nicholas". Iralyn was inspired to early learning from a baby when her mother took her in a little box to church services while she played the organ, and as a teacher at school, while she was teaching.  Thus, Iralyn's inspirations for teaching and playing the piano blossomed later in her life. Iralyn excelled in her studies.  She attended "Normal Room Seventh Day Adventist Elementary School".  Her teacher was "Aunt DellBrodie".  Iralyn continued her Christian Education through High School and College at West Indies College now Northern Caribbean University in Manchester, Jamaica West Indies.  She graduated with both levels of studies with excellent achievements. While in her final years of college Iralyn developed a friendship with a student from Bermuda names Gladwin Trott.  They fell in love, he proposed to her got her parents' consent for her hand in marriage.  Gladwin secured his "bride to be" because he graduated a year ahead of Iralyn.  He graduated, returned to Bermuda to work and he returned one year later married Iralyn after her graduation.  At the wedding Gladwin claimed his princess "Iralyn" by giving a speech he exclaimed "I came! I saw! I conquered!"  After the wedding they traveled away to the beautiful Island of Bermuda. Both committed to "Bloom where they were planted".  Gladwin served in the church schools.  Iralyn served as a teacher in Government Schools.  Later, both migrated to Canada and taught in the Adventist schools.  Atlantic Union College in the United States was where they completed their Bachelor's degree in Education.  Iralyn continued her studies at New York University.  She graduated with a Master's Degree in Education.  She excelled with "High Honors" that one of her professors remarked "Iralyn, you should not only teach but, Teach People How to Teach".   Committed to give back to Christian education, Iralyn taught at the Hanson Place Adventist Church School in Brooklyn New York (where her father Dr. Albert Haig was the founder and Pastor of that church).  Continue to give back Gladwin and Iralyn together served at another Adventist Church school in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  Gladwin was called to serve as Principal of Bermuda Institute in Bermuda, both returned to served there.  Iralyn taught many grade levels.  She finally became the head of the Early Childhood Department.  Stories of her excellent teaching and inspiration spread like wildfire throughout the island.  This prompted parents to register their children ahead of time.  Everyone wanted their child to be in Mrs. Trott's class.  People in school and church adored and loved Iralyn.  It was a sad time when she retired after fifty years of teaching. During the excitement of the busy teaching services, Iralyn had another life.  She gave birth to two wonderful children.  Donnalyn Trott, her daughter (deceased).  Donnalyn had three beautiful girls: Tiffany Goodin-Jones, Avalla Goodin-Cleveland and Melissa Trott.  Her son Gladwin Trott whom she affectionately called "Tony" and his wife Kay Trott are the proud parents of Nallia and Kellie.  She also loved her god-daughter Cle Holly and a host of other adopted children who called her "Mom". Iralyn's four grand-daughters gave her six great-grand children: Nadia and Nolan Cleveland; Malakai Jones; Kayden and Moses Staffine and Skylah Trott. A "godly God fearing" matriarch, loved her family and church.  An excellent teacher who served her church in many departments. She was blessed with a plethora of talents. "Prayer warrior, faithful mother and wife, pianist, seamstress, gardener, teacher, counselor, lover of young and old, great cook and entertainer, public speaker, Sabbath school teacher.  She loved her Sabbath school class and especially her Tuesday Morning Prayer Meeting Group.  Iralyn served in Prison Ministries, women's ministries Sabbath Superintendent, fed the homeless, served in many church offices and at 83 years old she was still preaching, teaching and playing the piano for Sabbath and Tuesday Morning Prayer Meetings. Her hobbies included reading The Bible; Desire of Ages, Steps to Christ and The Great Controversy.   She was a great story teller, Bible Games, Picture Games, Puzzles and many more.  She especially enjoyed making memories with family and friends.  Iralyn believed in Christian Education and after 50 years of teaching the couple retired in Alabama so their grand daughters  could complete their college education.  Tiffany graduated from Southern University in Tennessee and Avalla graduated from Oakwood University in Alabama. Just as Iralyn decided to relax she moved to Heathrow in Orlando Florida, her beloved husband Gladwyn became ill and passed away.  Iralyn remained at Heathrow to assist her sister Myrnelle to care for their dear sick mother.  She passed away December 27, 2005. Iralyn had no thought of coming to Palm Bay.  Leila Harrison (cousin of Iralyn) and her husband Sewell Harrison(friend) invited Iralyn to come to reside in Palm Bay, Florida.  She prayed and asked God His plans for her life.  God said "Yes" and to Palm Bay Iralyn came.  She was adopted as a "Number One" mother (January 2006) by Leila Harrison and her husband Sewell Harrison.  The Harrisons cared for Iralyn these eleven years.  Leila Harrison became her adopted daughter.  Mrs. Trott had an enjoyable life here in Palm Bay.  She would make happy preparations for family (children especially) and friends.  She enjoyed ten Happy years serving with members in different Departments of the Palm Bay Seventh Day Adeventist Church.  She loved them all, young and old.  She loved Pastor and Sister Phipps and Family, Pastor Andre Campbell, Sister Campbell and Family, and Pastor and Sister Fleurimond, the deacons and deaconesses and her entire church family. Iralyn Delores Haig-Trott will be remembered by her family and friends as one who served God, family, friends, even strangers.  She served her church in various Departments.  She will be remembered for her "brilliant mind" and humble  "Christlike-Spirit".  She called many to have a relationship with Jesus.  She always tells you "Follow God's Way".  As we celebrate her life today, let us strive to be like Jesus.  This was her desire. Iralyn has fought a good fight.  She has kept the faith.  Jesus will grant her the crown of righteousness one day soon.  Let us strive to serve the Lord so we can see her again on that great resurrection morning when God will say "Welcome home children".  Rest in Peace dear Iralyn.  God will bid thee arise.  We love you!! Viewing begins at 9:00 a.m. with services starting at 10:00 a.m.; Entombment will follow at Fountainhead Memorial Park, Palm Bay, Florida.
