Obituary of Donald E. Taylor

Donald E. Taylor, 89 years young, died on April 25th, 2015. Don was married to his wife of 52 years, Dorothy T. Taylor, who preceded him in death in 2008. Together they raised four children and are survived by Stephen Taylor and Elaine Keyes, as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The only child of Aneva Vosberg and Walter Taylor, Don was born March 16, 1926 in the small coal-mining town of Bush, Illinois. He was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War and while in the military he served with the Army Air Corp as a cadet pilot and with the US Air Force as a communications technician in Fuchu, Japan. After returning to civilian life, he joined New England Bell Telephone Company in a technical role while steadily progressing into several management positions with AT&T during his 35 year career in the northeast. He and Dorothy retired in 1985 to Homosassa Springs, FL, where they enjoyed a long retirement while frequently travelling in their RV throughout the US. Always a lover of travel and outdoor activities, Don most enjoyed fishing and camping but his greatest passion was tinkering. He was a brilliant innovator and lifelong student that loved repairing or modifying virtually anything mechanical or electrical. Don had an inquisitive mind and even into his eighties would relish explaining the details of GPS navigation or the advantages of a budget spreadsheet to his caregivers and friends. Despite significant physical infirmities resulting from a stroke, Don was always a gentleman, with a keen sense of humor and a deep appreciation for everyone that assisted him.
