Obituary of Ted T. Owen

Ted T. Owen of Nashville, Tennessee, age 83, died on Monday, December 21, 2015. He was born in Livermore, Kentucky to the late James and Ludye May Owen. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict and then used his GI Bill to earn a degree in accounting. He made life-long friends at Bowling Green Business College and worked with many of these friends at Genesco for over 30 years. Ted even had a Johnston & Murphy shoe named after him! Ted was a devoted husband and wonderful father. He sat through countless ball games and activities in support of his children, Ann Taylor and Jay. Throughout his life, Ted continually supported his children+óGé¼Gäós pursuit of educational and professional goals. He faithfully served as a deacon at Judson Baptist Church, Harpeth Heights Baptist Church, and Woodmont Baptist Church. For several years, he volunteered at the Nashville Baptist Association Toy Store. Ted would share of his faith in Jesus Christ beginning on a sweltering August morning at Livermore Baptist Church, which didn+óGé¼Gäót have air conditioning back then. On another sweltering August day in 1958, he married Janice Crume in that same church. He loved God, his family, fishing, and the Kentucky Wildcat basketball team. Friends will remember him for the delicious meals he cooked, especially his amazing biscuits and gravy. He willingly hit the road to support his children, driving to Western Kentucky games with Ann Taylor and countless trips to visit Jay at the Air Force Academy. The blue family van even had a license plate frame that said +óGé¼+ôOff to see Brother!+óGé¼-¥ Ted was a lifelong outdoorsman who cherished fishing trips with family and friends to Alaska and Alabama. Teresa, the daughter in law he loved so much, always called him the best dressed fisherman on the river. He held closely his faith in God and the knowledge that he would go to heaven. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tommy, brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Bess, and sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Delbert Bradshaw. His family includes his wife of 57 years, Janice Owen; daughter, Rev. Ann Taylor Owen; son and daughter in law, Lt. Col (ret) Jay Owen and Teresa Blume; brother, Colvin Owen (Lavelle); sister-in-law, Margaret Owen, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends after the celebration in the fellowship hall.
