Obituary of Joseph G. Alenski

Joe passed after a long struggle with cancer. He was originally from New York City, growing up first in Jackson Heights and then moving to Whitestone. He attended Queensborough Community College, Bayside, Queens and was in the ET program. He was a NYC policeman for 20 years. After retirement we moved to Florida. He is survived by his wife, Maureen of 48 years, his sisters Nathalie and Kathleen , and his brother Steven and Karen his wife, two sons, Jeffery and Andrew, three grandchildren Jeffery, Jr., Sarah, and Josephine. His brother Kenneth went home to the Lord in 2010. Joe had many interests. He collected stamps when we lived in New York. He collected coins and split this collection between his sons. He liked sports and enjoyed watching baseball but followed the N Y teams. He loved to watch football in season too! He was a member of the Brevard County 10-13 Club and was a Legionnaire of the Loyal Order of the Moose, He enjoyed bowling, but most recently he enjoyed watching rather then actually bowling. His best and great love was gambling and loved to go to penny slots. We occasionally went to the Hard Rock in Tampa when we visited his brother Steve and his wife, Karen who live on the West Coast of Florida. Joe liked to play cards and we often played pinochle with our best friends Bob and Valorie Stein. Joe and Bob were always partners and Val and I were partners. We had special signals to let each other know if we had something “good” to bid. We spent many hours in NewYork and Florida playing pinochle. Bob went home to the Lord and our pinochle playing ended. He also enjoyed playing poker and we spent many hours at family and friend’s gatherings playing cards and other games. When we played Trivial Pursuit, everyone liked Joe to read the cards. He was a wonderful husband and provided all our lives together. He was strict but fair. He was kind, thoughtful and gentle to me. He knew he did not have long to live with this terrible disease but wanted to live to make our 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2 years. It’s very hard to limit a person’s life to one page of thoughts. There is so much more I could say. We traveled together to many destinations and we loved to go on cruises. I will love him the rest of my life. He can never be replaced.
