Obituary of Janice K. Wyckoff
Janice Kathleen (Bootsie/Kat/Kathy) Wyckoff, formerly of Cape Canaveral, FL and Quincy, IL, comfortably and peacefully passed away on June 5, 2018, at Courtenay Springs Health and Rehabilitation Center, located in Merritt Island, FL, after battling several health issues.
Kathy was born to John and Kathryn (Koerline) Dixon on March 20, 1940, and was the third oldest of seven siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings Gene Dixon (2016_Mt. Vernon, MO); Barbara Poppie (1995_Brighton, CO) and Germaine Miller (1995_Springfield, IL). Surviving siblings include Lawrence Dixon of Maryland Heights, MO; Marilyn (Don) Bracy of Ozark, MO and Angela (Mike) Dick of Palm Bay, FL.
Kathy married Ken Wyckoff, and they had three children named Michael Wyckoff (deceased 2010_Springfield, MO); Theresa Wyckoff (Creve Coeur, IL) and Lawrence Wyckoff (Northport, AL). She has grandchildren and great grandchildren, who reside out of state.
To her close friends, Kat was known as “Bootsie”, as she loved to sing karaoke while wearing her western boots. She was an active member of the American Legion and VFW, and always enjoyed her Sunday BINGO outings and lottery scratch offs. In her day, she was an avid fisherwoman and camper.
After working 25 plus years for various government agencies, Kathy retired in 2005 from Redstone Arsenal in Madison, AL as a Financial Program Specialist. She traveled to Anchorage, AK and Huntsville, AL, to pursue career growth with each move.
Bootsie was always the life of the party, and had an uplifting spirit, which played out with her volunteer work throughout the community. She was a five-year volunteer for Hospice of St. Francis in northern Brevard County; and served meals at Thanksgiving or Christmas for the Salvation Army or other non‑profit organizations. Proud to be a Pisces, Bootsie loved people, and never knew a stranger. She left many impressionable thoughts by which to live and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was bigger than life and would light up a room.
On Saturday evenings, Bootsie would attend the 4:00 p.m. vigil mass at Church of Our Saviour, located at 5301 N. Atlantic Avenue, Cocoa Beach, FL, and would arrive by 3:00 p.m., to have quiet time with our Lord and pray the rosary.
A Catholic memorial mass will be held at Church of Our Saviour on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 10:30 a.m., followed by cremation burial in the Memorial Garden, same location. A reception will be held in the Angel Room of the Church at the conclusion of the service.
The VFW Post 10131 in conjunction with Unit 348 American Legion Challenger 7 Post wishes to host a reception and Celebration of Life in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of St. Francis; 1250-B Grumman Place; Titusville, FL 32780 in the name of Janice Kathleen (Bootsie) Wyckoff.
