The family of Elliot Montali Jr. wishes to announce his passing after a long illness, on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at the age 78.
Elliot is remembered by wife Joyce Elaine Montali (Carlson) of Melbourne Village, Florida. He is also survived by daughter Anita Montali Vondersaar; stepson Jason Levine and wife Dana-Marie Levine; nieces Kim Burgess, Michelle Gienau and Sheri Berman and a dear friend and fellow chess player Anthony (Tony) Bannerman of Melbourne Village, Florida.
Elliot was godfather of great-nieces Kaylee and Alyssa and leaves behind several grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He is predeceased by father Elliot Montali Sr.; mother Nellie Montali (Churnik) and sister Susan Lukaszewicz (Montali).
Elliot was born and grew up in New London, CT. He was proud of his Italian and Russian heritage. The Montali family owned and operated Montali’s Bakery of New London, CT for many years. Elliot was an avid chess player who won many tournaments and achieved an expert level of playership. He was an excellent cook who specialized in Italian cuisine. Elliot had been accepted to Julliard but choose to pursue others interests during his lifetime. He loved animals and thrived on the companionship of his pets. He often spoke about his cherished dog “Ted” and most enjoyed walking him out on Bluff Point in Groton, CT before moving down to Melbourne Village, Florida.
The family requests any monetary donations be made in his name to Molly Mutt II Thrift Shop, 728 East New Haven Avenue Melbourne, Florida, 32901, 321-951-3607. This charity operates thrift shops with monies going to the care and rehoming of animals in Brevard County, Florida.
No formal services are planned. Interment of his is cremains will be private at the discretion of the family.
