Obituary of Wilbert “Webb” L. Woods

Wilbert “Webb” L Woods Jr., 93, of Palm Bay, FL, passed away on April 2, 2018 in Melbourne, FL at the home of his daughter. Friends may visit at 1 p.m. on Sunday April 8, 2018 at Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care, 1001 South Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL 32901 Funeral services will be held at 2 pm with the Pastor John Johnson and Steven West officiating. Entombment will follow at Fountainhead Memorial Park, Palm Bay, FL. Webb was born in Clendenin, WV to the late Wilbert L Woods and Myrtle White Woods on 10/26/1924. He is survived by his wife Mildred of 55 years, his daughter Trina Jarvis (husband Donald), his daughter Tracie Woods Harris (husband Tom) Two grandchildren Tiffany Jarvis and Jordan Woods both of Melbourne, FL and his brother Curtis Woods (wife Betty) of Hurricane, WV. Webb was preceded in death by his two sisters Virginia Webster and Marie Conrad (Winston Salem, NC), six brothers Virgil “Bud”, Carmel “Deck”, John, Charles “Butch”, and Herbert. He attended Clendenin High School. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Navy and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was on an island in the Pacific when the island was bombed by the Japanese. A piece of bomb shrapnel hit him in the back where he was nearly paralyzed. Upon returning to Clendenin he owned Clendenin Taxi and then worked for General Pipeline for several years. Webb then become a truck driver for Smith Transfer in Belle, WV, and then he worked for Yellow Freight in Raphine, VA from which he retired in 2000. He was a member of the Teamsters Union No. 29. All who knew Webb would say he was a generous and giving man who was loved by many. He will be deeply missed by all. Webb’s family would like to gratefully acknowledge and give thanks to his many caretakers and medical professionals that provided wonderful care for him over the last year.
