Obituary of Sidney “Jack” Hanks

Sidney +óGé¼+ôJack+óGé¼-¥ Hanks, 90, of Melbourne, FL died September 6, 2015 with his family surrounding him. Born February 8, 1925 in Elkhorn, WV, his family includes his wife of 65 years Anita B. Hanks, children Scott (Angie) Hanks, Diane (Mark) Bennett, Lori (Chuck) Stanley, John (Melissa) Hanks; six grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He owned Lowe-Hanks Funeral Homes in Hialeah and Miami Springs, FL for many years and worked for Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care and the Washington Nationals baseball team in Brevard County for the past 9 years. Active in the Spotlight Club, Jack served on the Board of Directors for the Salvation Army, was past President of the Hialeah Miami Springs Chamber of Commerce, President of the Miami Springs Kiwanis Club, Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, a 60 year member of the Hialeah Opa Locka Masonic Lodge, member of the Mahi Shrine, lifetime member of the Hialeah Moose Club, member of the American Legion, member of the Scottish Rite of Miami, member of the Board of Directors for Fair Havens Nursing Home in Miami Springs and Epworth Nursing Home, and was a member of Touchdown Club of Miami. He was a WWII US Navy veteran. Jack was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Miami Springs for over 59 years and attended Advent Lutheran Church in Suntree for the past 10 years. Hickory Street, Melbourne on Saturday, September 12, 2015. US Navy Honors will be accorded.
