Obituary of Josephine Shields
Josephine Shields, age 93, of Barefoot Bay, Florida, peacefully passed from William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Florida to join her heavenly Father on May 24, 2016.
She was born in Flint, Michigan on November 22, 1922 of Polish immigrants, Frank and Anna Bednarski, and resided there with her sisters Mary and Joan, and brothers Eddie, Joe, and Mickey.
She attended Catholic school, then graduated from Northern High School in Flint.
During the early years of WWII, she was employed at AC Spark Plug in Flint, assembling equipment parts to be used in the war.
She proudly married former Marine, Robert Shields, on October 29, 1949, and together they raised a family of four children: Dennis, Randy, Sheila, and Scott, with daughter-in-law Cindy and son-in-law Dennis Logan following.
She was a dedicated wife and mother, and dedicated to her Catholic faith. She was very proud of her husbands WWII service, becoming an active member of the VFW. She was also proud of her Polish heritage, becoming an active member of the Polish-American Club. She enjoyed bowling, Bingo, and the occasional casino trips with her dear friend, Carla. In her recent years, she enjoyed visits from special friends Freddie, Frank, and Olimpia.
She retired with her husband to Barefoot Bay in 1985, where she resumed her activities. She was the grandmother of 8 (Randy Jr., Rodney, Carrie, Nicholas, Khirsten (Bruce Asbury), Rae, Margo, and Brett), and great-grandmother of 3 (Alivia, Caison, and Presley), whom she enjoyed immensely.
Her forever faithful husband awaits in joyful anticipation of their heavenly reunion.A celebration mass of her life will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Palm Bay, Florida on June 4, 2016 at 10:30am.In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to William Childs Hospice House, 381 Medplex Parkway, Palm Bay FL 32907, in her memory.
