Obituary of George E. Blatchford
George E. Blatchford (91) – Palm Bay, FL passed away peacefully at his home on September 7, 2018. Born May 12, 1927 in New London, CT. Survivors include his daughters Nancy Suscella of Sarasota, FL and Barbara Burnett (Carl) of Melbourne, FL. Also 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, one great great grandson and his brother, Arthur Blatchford. He was predeceased by his wife Jennie, daughter Kathy Spencer-Gartland, son George Blatchford Jr. and sister Barbara Nunes.
George graduated from Buckeley High School in New London, CT in 1946 where he excelled in baseball and basketball. He served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge with a rank of Sargent E5. George and Jennie raised their family in New London and then Waterford, CT. He served as a Commander of the Polish American Veterans Club in New London. He worked for New Penn Trucking for 37 years up to his retirement in 1983, at which time he relocated to Palm Bay, FL.
George went back to work for Harris Corporation in Palm Bay, FL, retiring for the 2nd time after 13 years of service. He also fulfilled a lifetime wish and took up the game of golf, and could be seen out on various courses up to his late 80’s. He once again went back to work for the Olive Garden Restaurant in West Melbourne, FL, retiring for a 3rd time after 17 years of service. He was also a founding member of the American Legion Post #117, Palm Bay.
George was well liked by everyone he met. He enjoyed his family and friends. He was also a lifelong fan of the New York Giants and the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers.
He and his wife Jennie will be interred at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL. A private memorial service will be held for family and friends.
