Ray, Ian Clarke and myself were great friends from 1946 when at Waterloo School then Hutt Intermediate and then Hutt Valley High School. Ray was full of mischief. We all fell in love with the same girl, Robyn Blinkhorn, whose father was a chemist at Hataitai. She was in olur class at Hutt Intermediate and was not interested. We all delivered the Evening Post but Ray and Ian did a stint delivering the morning Southern Cross for the short time it was published.
We were in different classes at Hutt High School and I left as soon as I got school certificate in Dec 1953 and went away to sea as an officer cadet. I came across this website today as am trying to write my own life history for the family.

I have only just heard about Ray’s passing. My condolences to the family. I was one of those drama kids in Creston who lived and breathed theatre under “Bear’s” smart, offbeat and brilliant directorship. He is very fondly remembered.

Ray was such a wonderful man. I still remember the day he married my grandmother, Tina, on the docks and my cousin and I served as the flower girls. He made my grandmother so happy and I blieve she did the same for him. I can remember visiting and listening to jazz with Ray. His stories and lovable spirit will be missed. I love you Ray Pomeroy. Thank you for so many wonderful year apart of our family. Love, Ashley
