Obituary of Howard Arthur Milligan
Howard Arthur Milligan passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 in Pell City, AL at the age of 98. He was born in Springfield, Ohio to John and Elizabeth Remsburg Milligan and had an older brother, Charles, all predeceased.
He was the beloved husband of the late Norma C. Milligan; father, with his first wife Carol Rice, of Nancy Carol Morgan; Karen Sue Harmon (Sid) Pell City, AL; and Bruce Howard Milligan (deceased) Atlanta, GA; father-in-law to Theresa Singley Milligan, Atlanta, GA; and stepfather to Ruth Ann Harvey, Melbourne, FL. He took his role as father and stepfather very seriously and serving his family any time and any way he could.
Known as Papa Howard to later generations, he will always be remembered fondly by his 6 remaining grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren and was introduced one year ago to his first great great grandchild. His presence will be missed most at family gatherings for meals, watching football, playing bridge, or just porch sitting in the warm sun.
Howard was an athlete in high school and college, a high school teacher and coach, and a WWII veteran (U.S. Army). After the war he had a long career as a recruiter, personnel officer, and classifier in private aerospace companies and civil service which took him many places, the last of which was Satellite Beach, FL. After retirement, he and Norma traveled in their RV, were active volunteers for many years at their church, and could often be found pushing wheelchairs at the local hospital.
There will be a grave side service at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge on Wednesday, December 28 at 11 a.m. All in attendence are invited to lunch at Grills Riverside on US 1 after the service.
