Obituary of Lewis E. Hockman
Lewis E. Hockman passed away at the age of 95 on Friday, January 11, 2019 in Marietta, Georgia.
He was a long time resident of Brevard County but resided in Georgia since 2012.
He was born in Lenora, Kansas and lived in Wakeeney, Kansas as a boy. He graduated from Trego County High School and attended Fort Hays Kansas State College until joining the Marine Corps in 1942. He proudly served as an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer. His tour of duty during World War ll spanned from the United States to the Pacific theater and up into Japan.
He married fellow marine Helen Makinen on September 30, 1944. After the war, he and Helen lived in Detroit, Michigan where he worked for RCA service company. Later they moved to Owensboro, Kentucky where he opened up a TV and appliance business. He later accepted a position with IBM corporation in upstate New York and enjoyed a 27 year career at various locations, including the space shuttle program at the Kennedy Space Center where he retired in 1984. Lewis lived a full life that was lovingly filled with family, friends, travel, fishing, and numerous volunteer activities.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents, nine siblings, his wife Helen of 67 years and his two sons Larry and Allen.
He is survived by one brother, two daughters Karen and Janet, six grandsons, and ten great grandchildren.
Interment and graveside service will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida on April 26, 2019 at 2 o’clock.
