I will never forget the day when Mike knocked on my office door to offer his insight that the Museum’s exhibit was not correct about being Provincetown’s first airline. Did I mind and would I listen to what he had to say? That moment started one of the most interesting and most intriguing chapters in my time as the Museum’s executive director. I quickly learned that an appointment with Mike was to be a very insightful and candid afternoon, many of which followed. His mind and his recall was exceptional. We were excited to host the story of his amphibious airline.
Mike stayed in touch long after I left Provincetown. I have the utmost respect for him. I know he was lonely in his latter years having lost so many friends and family members. I truly hope he is is at peace.
I have such fond memories of his recollections and of his service to our country. He never lost his desire to fly. Mike, fly with the angels now.

Going thru the mounds of papers after your passing, we found a wonderful letter you wrote to family about your love for mom. I going to share some of your words.’ After caring for her needs as a responsible husband and father of our five children, I feel alone and no future joy on the horizon. Joan was the love of my life and existence. She knew how to keep the family together, during my many military assignments. Joan was fun to be with.We could read each other like a book. She would remain calm and not lose her temper. You see, I am from a Yankee attitude and she had that kind and Southern easy way. A smile that could melted you away. The best gift you can give your children is to love their mother, I am a believer.”

I miss you grandpa. I remember as a child you were always building us things like a club house or fixing our go carts. You always had time to talk with us. You were always so proud to talk to us about your past air planes and military service. I know you are in heaven now and are no longer dealing with the pains and mental issues that plagued you these last years. We here on Earth will never forget you and will be happy to greet you with open arms when we see you again.
I love you grandpa, your grandson,
Michael

Our Dearest Grandpa,
I had the pleasure of assisting you during these past 6 months. To be able to help a Veteran who has accomplished and sacrificed so much for my freedom was a complete honor. I am so happy that my children, your great grandchildren, were able to create wonderful memories with you. You may be gone but you are certainly not forgotten. Every time I hear a plane, I will think of my favorite pilot and smile. Thank you for everything you have done. Love, Rachel, John, and Elizabeth

Grandpa will be missed but his memory will live on. I enjoyed hearing about his airplanes and his military service. I loved how his eyes would light up when he was talking about them. Grandpa came into our family in 1980 and had treated our family like his own. He was always reparing things the grand kids tore up. He also built little airplanes for all three kids to ride (beautiful). Love you Grandpa

Mike was a true hero in the days of WW2 and Korean War. .He was so blessed to be healthy enough to go on the “Honor Flight” before his passing for it enlightened the last few years of his life, to show his pictures and book of memories to anyone who ay around. He was a very proud man and so he should be for all his accomplishments in the military. He will be missed by his family and friends. May God bless him.

My great-grandfather was a man so worthy of all the honor and respect he is owed. He bravely fought for our country, and started an airline venture that not many would be able to accomplish. He was such a unique man, and so inspirational to the rest of our family. God bless him, rest in peace. We will honor your memory forever. Love- Amanda, Ryan, and your great great grandson

Mike, you were my neighbor, my best friend as you always told me. You were like my 2nd dad. When ever u needed something I was always there for you and you were always there for me. You always asked me all the time if there was two of me, and I always told u they only made one of me, and u always laughed. You always told me you know how to fix everything, and I would say, that’s what I’m here for to help you. I’m sure going to miss those days, we had a good journey. Rest in peace my best friend, I love and miss you! Love Donna

Dear Daddy, You were our Commander and Chief. Fear was put in the heart of any young man that dared to call your daughters!! We were the only family that had airplanes in our yard and when you totally rebuilt it, you bought another plane. To my surprise, you found Ben a plane and brought it to Atlanta. Pulling the plane down the interstate with the wings on top of it!! You never ceased to amaze us, when you built our barn from the ground up or you added a generator to the Surgery Center. You were amazing.
