Obituary of Gerardus Van Poll
It is with deep sorrow that I inform you of the passing of our Uncle, Jerry Van Poll – a great Marine and wonderful uncle, brother and friend. Jerry passed peacefully surrounded by family and many friends on January 1, 2017.
Jerry was born in Heerlebaan, Holland on November 4, 1927 and lived there until his enlistment in the Royal Dutch Marines where he honorably served in Indonesia for three years during World War II, receiving the Dutch Purple Heart. He married the beautiful Margreth Bockkom and they immigrated to the United States in 1955, living in New York City and later in Old Brookville, NY; Stroudsburgh, PA and Melbourne Beach, FL. After Margaret's passing Jerry moved to Buena Vista in West Melbourne. He is survived by his sister Claire Remmerswaal and many nieces and nephews in Rhode Island, Australia and the Netherlands. He is predeceased by his sister Mia and brother Willy.
Jerry greatly appreciated all of the wonderful relationships he enjoyed over his many years. He loved his family and friends, flying and a good party! He truly cherished the friendship and love of each one of you. He was a member of numerous organizations, including the Marine Corp League, Quiet Birdmen, Wings Club and the VFW. A special thanks to his large military family who embraced Jerry and he them – truly a Band of Brothers (and Sisters). Semper Fi!!!
Thank you for all of the support, condolences and love you have given to Jerry and his family. We all will miss his great smile and outgoing personality – and the jokes. He was a beautiful man and he will always be missed.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 4, 2017 at Ammen Family Cremation & Funeral Care located at 1001 Hickory Street, Melbourne, FL 32901-1957. Further information may be found on their web site www.AFCFcare.com.
