Obituary of David Alan Pasley
Melbourne Beach— Dave Pasley, 76, passed away Wednesday, July 24, after his heroic fight against pancreatic cancer. He was a man of deep faith, and his love and trust in Jesus gives comfort to those who remain behind.
Dave is survived by his wife of 44 years, Patricia (Mikos) Pasley, his two sons, David Pasley II, wife Diane, and M. Chris Pasley, fiance Darlene and his four grandchildren Sarah, Rebekah, Noah, Lele. Other close family members: Aunt Noreen Crawford, Joe and Judy Mikos, John and Shirley Mikos, Kevin and Renee Mikos, Ken and Jayne Mikos, Karen and Dan Sopczak, Jeff Mikos, Lauren Mikos, Trevor Mikos and Ryan Mikos. He also leaves behind many close friends.
Dave was born in West Frankfort, Illinois to parents Harold and Claire Pasley. After graduating from Pekin High School he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Salina, Kansas. It was there that he met his first wife Mary, and they had two children David and Michael Christopher. She passed away after an extended illness in 1974. Then in 1975 he married his current wife Pat, of 44 years.
Dave started his career in 1965 with IBM in Chicago and from there he transferred to Moline, Illinois in 1975. While in Moline he continued his education where he earned a bachelors degree from Northwestern University and a Master’s Degree from Florida Institute of Technology. In 1984, he was transferred to IBM Boca Raton, FL. During his IBM career he held numerous positions, mainly in product development/management. After 30 years of service he retired from IBM and started his second career with Dell Computers in Austin, Texas as a Software Program Manager. In 2000, Dave left Dell and returned to FL to enjoy a life of retirement in Melbourne Beach.
The beautiful Sebastian Inlet State Park, located only 16 miles from his home, was one of the reasons he chose to settle in Melbourne Beach. Shortly after the move, he began volunteering there joining a group of retirees who did odd jobs around the park including building park benches, boardwalks, painting, clearing brush, etc. Later on he led the group which he lovingly called the “Old Geezer Construction Group”. To insure financial support of the many projects, he became a board member of the Friends of Sebastian Inlet State Park and served in many positions including President.
In 2014, Dave’s love of the Indian River Lagoon and the Sebastian Inlet prompted him to run for the seat of Commissioner for Sebastian Inlet Tax District. He won that seat and served until November of 2018. He often said how much he enjoyed serving in that role.
Dave also proudly served his community in many other different ways that included his involvement with the Brevard Co. Budget Review, Brevard Co. Board of Adjustments,, Brevard Co. Citizens Coalition, Brevard Tea Party, Ronald Reagan Club, and Republican Liberty Caucus,
He loved to travel and said many times that he felt fortunate to be able to visit so many different places which included Australia, New Zealand, Costa Rica, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, Italy, Toronto, Quebec, Panama Canal, Mexico, Bahamas, Alaska and many areas throughout the United States. He loved all the places he traveled but his last trip, which was to Scotland in 2017, held a special place in his heart probably due to his part Scottish heritage.
All his many experiences, love of traveling, reading, eating and cooking different foods, the people he met, and gathering of miscellaneous useless data (MUD), gave him all the material he needed to share his many stories. Those stories will be so greatly missed by his family and friends.
