~ Melbourne ~
December 7, 1938 ~ July 15, 2018
Elizabeth (Betty) Van Patten, 79, of Melbourne, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay. Betty was born on December 7, 1938 in Streator, IL. She raised her family in Monmouth, IL before moving to San Diego, CA for 15 years and moved to Melbourne in 1998 to be near her grandchildren.
Betty was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Melbourne and loved her many friends there (especially the Sunday school class) and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was an avid golfer and enjoyed her Tuesday Ladies League at the Melbourne Golf Course. Betty was an avid sports fan and drew much enjoyment from watching her grandchildren play sports from pre-school age up through high school. She was always there with a hug after every game.
She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her life of faith, generosity, and love were tremendous examples for all who knew her. The family would like to thank the hospice nurses (especially Zee), the ALS Society, the Mayo Clinic, and the staff of William Childs Hospice House for their help and care.
Betty is survived by her husband Bob of Melbourne; daughter Linda Borell (George) of Indialantic; step-daughter Lory Smidt (Tim); step-daughter Carla of Springfield, IL; sister-in-law Roberta Lee (Bob) of Palm Bay; grandchildren Alex, Lauren, Robert, Tara, Keane and great granddaughter Lylah. She was predeceased by her son Larry and grandson Timmy.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Melbourne, 3301 Dairy Rd., 723-0561, on Saturday, August 4th at 1:00 PM. Donations in Betty’s memory may be made to First Baptist Church of Melbourne.
