Obituary of Edward Eugene Collison
November 20, 1937 – December 10, 2018
Memories of Carefree, Boyhood Days
A parsonage in Owatonna, Minnesota, was the starting place. Edward was the first son of Cyril George Collison and Mae Lillian Riter. Next, Galion, Ohio, adding brother Ronald to the family. Edward looked forward to the adventurous summer trips to Mae’s relatives in South Dakota. When they moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey, there was the beach, the ocean, fishing and working on Steel Pier on the boardwalk.
Memories of Making Wise Choices
Edward proudly served in the United States Air Force. When he returned from 18 months in Tripoli, Libya, he married Muriel Elizabeth Booth in Chelsea Baptist Church in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Wise choice, indeed, the union lasting 59 years. His desire to preach God’s Word, led him to attend Moody Bible Institute, Philadelphia College of Bible, and Baptist Bible Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania.
Memories of Service and Dedication
Edward had a great love for his children: Dorothy Collison Gruendler, David Collison, Daniel Collison and Diane Collison; as well as his grandchildren: Gregory Collison, Michael Collison, Sabrina Collison, Katherine Collison, Timothy Collison, Andrew Collison, Jacob Collison, and Caleb Collison. Edward served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Hollisterville, Pennsylvania; Bible Baptist Church, Mt. Vision, New York; Berea Baptist Church, Melbourne, Florida; taught at Sovereign Grace Baptist Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri; after retirement was a member in good standing at Forest Hills Baptist Church, Titusville, Florida, and Grace Bible Sanctuary, Palm Bay, Florida.
Memories of Extensive Travel and Special People
Edward enjoyed global travel while in the Air Force and shared touring 48 states and some cruising with Muriel. God placed particular people in his life at crucial times to guide, inspire and instruct him. He was especially thankful for his father who he often called to discuss a difficult theological issue or passage of Scripture.
Memories Missing
Memories are not needed in Edward’s eternal home. They were faded, confused, and stolen by dementia anyway. Edward is always in the present now, in the presence of his Savior!
