John was born on August 20, 1961 to John and Wanda (Mitchell) Lehr in Muskegon, Michigan.
He grew up a happy child playing in the woods and waters of northern Michigan. He was baptized at Bethany Baptist Church and was very active in Youth for Christ. He graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1980. He went on to earn a degree in Petroleum Technology from Northwestern Michigan College. He then enrolled in the Navy. After retirement John settled in Melbourne, Florida. He worked as an Aircraft Dispatcher for a government contract company.
John’s greatest joy in his life was raising his daughter Brittney. He loved laughter, good food and conversation. He was an avid Scuba Diver and spent years driving up and down the Eastern Seaboard in search of new areas to explore. He grew up swimming and boating in the Great Lakes. As a child he spent summers on Big Star Lake, Michigan with his many cousins. As a teenager, home became Elk Lake in Grand Traverse County, Michigan. As a family we spent many years gathering there and those were our happiest of times. John’s priorities were always God, Country and Family. He was very kind and always available to lend a helping hand.
