Obituary of Martin “Marty” Brokob

Martin “Marty” Brokob of Merritt Island, passed away on Thursday, June 6th, 2019 at the age of 59 or as he’d like to say “29 years old with 30 years’ experience!”. He is survived by his wife Evelyn “Ev’y” R. Brokob, daughters Marlena L. Brokob and her husband Kevin D. French, Angel M. Ballard and her pseudo-husband Brett N. W. Potocin, son Steven M. Brokob and his wife Timika A., and daughters Tina A. Ballard, and Jamie M. Kelly, grandsons Hayden M. Flierl, Brett N. W. Potocin, II, and granddaughters Trinity M. Potocin and Connie M. Brokob, and baby Potocin. He was preceded in death by his parents Hank and Jeanette E. (Ginter) Brokob and son James R. Ballard. Marty grew up in Lackawanna, NY home of the Bethlehem Steel Plant with three siblings, Melissa Brokob, Mitchell Brokob, and Melynda Marshall. He led an active childhood playing with the neighborhood children in the pink snow that would fall because of the steel plant. As a young man, Marty was often flattered when friends compared him to looking like Jim Morrison with “killer blue eyes.” Marty served honorably in the United States Marine Corps from 1982-1986 as an aircraft ordnance technician and rifle range coach in Cherry Point, North Carolina. Marty always injected humor whenever possible. After the military, he started his carpentry business and called it Rent-A-Husband so that driving around town in a white construction van was a favorite of his family. Marty met the love of his life, Ev’y, in his later years. During their time together, Marty became a grandpa. Initially hesitant to hold his first grandson, he quickly became ecstatic when the young man grew to share a passion for cars and guns! Marty and Ev’y traveled and enjoyed retirement as often as possible, especially to their favorite location, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Marty also enjoyed car shows, learning to fly, and trying his hand at gardening. Marty will be cremated by Ammen Family Cremation and Funeral Care in Melbourne, Florida. There will be no viewing since his family refused to honor his request to have him stuffed and mounted sitting in his lawn chair outside in the sun wearing his favorite Hawaiian shirt, cargo shorts, grass flip flops with a beer in his hand so that he would appear natural to visitors. Marty will be laid to rest at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 20th, 2019 at the Bath National Cemetery in New York. Immediately following there will be reception held at 2pm at American Legion Post #173 located at 14 W. Williams St., Bath, NY where they will be serving food and nonalcoholic beverages. You may honor Marty’s memory by donating to the Disabled American Veterans or Wounded Warrior Project or the charity of your choice in his name.
