John was my life-long friend. We were born in the same neighborhood in the same month and year. We went to kindergarten, grade school and high school together, and have stayed in close touch throughout our entire lives. His sense of humor and amazing memory were the delight of all who knew him. His two daughters adored him, and he was blessed by the love and constant care of his youngest daughter, Holly who lived nearby with her family. My entire family loved him; I will miss him so much.

John; (AKA – “Pops” or “Pa Pa Lotz”) for me and my family, he will be truly missed. I first met Pops in the fall of 1984, when his daughter Hollis and I began college together. Hollis and I became very good friends and John and Barbara welcomed me into their home as if I were part of the family. Over the years our family bond grew and he would refer to me as his third daughter. I couldn’t be prouder. Pops was always one for a good story, a great sense of humor, a world of information and always willing to do a crossword puzzle. His laugh, his smile, his voice and his presence will be missed immensely. We Love You Pa Pa Lotz! Brenda, Sam, Samantha and Ariana Badami

John has been a part of our lives since he and my husband Jim started Kindergarten together at Belnor Grade School!!! They went through junior and high school together at Nomandy High School. That’s when I came into the picture two years behind these feisty
boys at Normandy. Jim and I later married and John was our best man. Through the years we kept in contact with visits to Florida and meeting the love of his life Barbara. What a pair they were. Jim and Jack Pulliam last visited John about four years ago when they flew to Florida to visit him at a retirement center. They really had a good time Later it was mostly phone visits and looking forward to his Christmas photos of his family. They broke the “mold” with John S. Lotz. He was an original and always had a wonderful sense of humor no matter how sick he was. We love you John and will certainly miss our conversations with you. RIP dear friend. Jim and Charlotte

I met John in the summer of 1975 at WDAE/WAVV in Tampa. We were instant friends as it is impossible not to like a personality as large as John’s. He became the big brother I never had and we remained friends through all the years of broadcast moves and the in general ups and downs of life. There was no better story teller or deal maker and, for those of us who ever counted on him, no better friend. I loved the guy!

While I only got to know John for the last 15 months of his life, I am so very happy to have known him and what he meant to his family, especially Hollis. Never have a seen a more loyal, caring and loving child. It is my honor to have known John and my great honor to love and care for his amazing & precious daughter with whom I look forward to sharing many more amazing stories for many years to come! RIP Great One ❤️
