Obituary of Ramon Brunell Kennelly

Ramon Kennelly passed away in “sunny Florida” where it was always “80 degrees” on May 18th 2017.  Born in Worcester MA on November 23rd, 1924 to Cora J. Brunell and George W. Kennelly, he was fourth in a line-up of five high-spirited Irish brothers. Ramon served his country faithfully in the United States Navy at Normandy during WWII aboard an LST 400. He and his brothers, George, Robert, Richard and Ronald made the best of their days in the service by creating memories while on leave that became the topic of family celebrations for years to come. The stories were many and grew bigger as the years progressed and to this day no one knows who really stole that clock. He married the love of his life, Aileen Maye Simpson, in 1948 and together they raised four great kids; Robert Ramon Kennelly, Sharon Leigh Kennelly Belanger, Kevin Grant Kennelly and Kimberly Ann Kennelly Canty, all of whom survive him. Beyond four fabulous children, Ramon’s greatest gift to Aileen was caring for her in their home up until her untimely death in 1982. Before his favorite part of life (his retirement) he worked as a policeman for the Worcester Railroad and spent many years as the Chief Purchasing Agent for the Wyman Gordon Company in Worcester and Grafton, MA. This by far was his favorite job and it not only supported his family but provided the opportunity to travel and meet people all over the country. Retirement allowed Ramon to spend more time maintaining his lawn and home, which he did with great pride. And moving from Massachusetts to Florida allowed him to tend his grass year-round and spend even more time on the golf course. It was there in Florida where he met Gloria Oxenfort, the second great love of his life. They enjoyed 20 years together going to garage sales, hitting deals on last minute cruises and simply being together, sharing food and good times with her daughter Gail Oxenfort. Gail, who Ramon cherished as a daughter and friend, cared for him as he cared for her mother when Ramon, for a second time in his life, expressed his love, not in just words, but indeed by caring for Gloria in their home until her death in 2013. Ramon will forever live on in stories told by his grandchildren; Jennifer, Sean, Megan, Cailyn, Ryan, Kelsey, Rodney and Angela. He was saddened to have been pre-deceased by his grandson Nathan but blessed to have one great-grandchild, Carter. He will be forever missed by his favorite sister-in-law Joan Kennelly, as well as his adopted Florida family, the Chadbourne’s and Canitano’s who lovingly considered him one of their own. A celebration of his 92 years will be held in both Florida and Massachusetts. He didn’t want a formal service filled with sadness and instead requests that we take a moment to stand up and applaud him for a life well lived.
