Jack,
I was a classmate of Fran at Central Catholic. My family knew the Zinns. My brothers were classmates of Diann, we played football and of course knew Dr. Zinn from his volunteering as the sports physician. So, her passing is very sad. However, her obituary highlights the beauty of someone like Fran.
Certainly being the same age as Fran causes deep reflection. I have often said that I wouldn’t trade with any other generation, either before or in the future, since the beginning of time. Her life is a great example of our place in time and in the cosmos. We lived in a time of peace, with growing economies. The Catholic education gave us a clear foundation of ethics with good parents as role models. Most of us have enjoyed life with the one caring and sharing spouse. Also, we enjoyed a childhood in one of the world’s most idyllic places in the most pleasant climate. We didn’t question our parents or neighbors, and the Walter Chroncites of the world were trust-worthy. Today, children have to get three opinions just to try to triangulate to the truth. Questions as simple as what’s your sex and do you want to have your baby are common place today where as we would have never thought about such absurdities as questions at all.
But, thanks for sharing your beautiful life together and how blessed we have been to be brought into this world in the best of times, the best location and with the best guidance to face the world. You and she have demonstrated how well this foundation prepared us for a meaningful life. Yet, I still remember Fran in that bulky blue gym suit with her ever pleasant smile. I believe in an ever-lasting soul as much as the conservation of mass and energy. May her soul be where her infectious smile can continue to bring joy to others. God Bless you, her and all the rest of us who have been lucky enough to share this slice of time.

Dear Jack,
Sincere condolences to you and the family. Fran was a person full of life. I remember her trying to teach me to play football at War Memorial Park. We must have been about 8 years old. I was DREADFUL! I haven’t a sporty bone in my body, but Fran didn’t get disgusted with me.
I remember her big smile. That lives on.
May you all enjoy the happy memories. May they give you comfort.
