Obituary of Irene M. C. Rummage

Irene Miller Cameron Rummage, 95, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017. Born in Leith, Scotland, and the only child of Dugald Alexander and Christina Sutherland Miller Cameron. She began a nursing career in March 1944 in Edinburgh, Scotland focused on midwifery. She married Charles F. Rummage in 1963 at Gibraltar. He was with the Air Force Civil Service as Property Administrator. As such they lived in Spain and Saudi Arabia until she became a U.S. citizen on August 17, 1965 while in Kansas City, KS. She has lived in the Melbourne area since about 1978 when her husband retired and then died in 1981 on her birthday July 19. Irene loved and lived an exciting life visiting several countries abroad and around the United States making many friends along that journey. She held a huge boa constrictor around her neck and celebrated her 80th birthday by skydiving in Key West. With her husband they shared a love of square dancing. She continued that love by taking ballroom dancing lessons and enjoyed league bowling with friends. She found herself a boyfriend when she moved into Buena Vida and enjoyed eating dinner out and participating in the many activities available from bingo to partying. Her last home was West Melbourne Health Care Center. There was a very spiritual side to Irene from the time she was a young girl – she loved her Jesus. Her parents didn’t go to church, but she asked for their permission to do so. She was a member of St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Peterborough, Scotland where she was confirmed on December 3, 1939. She has been a member of Holy Apostles Episcopal Church, 505 Grant Ave., Satellite Beach since 1983 and participated in most of the worship services and many of the activities always available. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Holy Apostles Episcopal Church, 505 Grant Avenue, Satellite Beach, Florida. Since her body has been donated to the University of Central Florida for science, interment of her cremains in Holy Apostles Memorial Garden will take place at later date. No flowers please.
