Obituary of Arnhold Schwichtenberg

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to to the same.” – Ronald Regan Arnhold Schwichtenberg passed away on June 3, 2018 due to injuries sustained in a car accident on May 27, 2018. Arnie was born on July 16, 1921 in Bayonne, NJ and was 96 when he passed. Arnie was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and was a Chief machinist on the USS Trever. He served six years in the Navy and later in the war was aboard the USS Steele DE-8 in the South Pacific. Once leaving the service, his family relocated to Oakdale, California where he raised his family and farmed almonds. Arnie worked as a machinist, tool and die maker for Norris Industries and Gallo Winery. Arnie was preceded in death by his first wife Terrill, his daughter Helen Huntley and his son Arnie Joe and son Kevin. He is survived by his wife Lilly, his son Neil Schwichtenberg (Mary); son Ken Post (Polly) and daughter Arlilla Bueno. He is also survived by sister Anna Miller of Matawan, New Jersey, 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and 12 great-great grandchildren. Arnie was an active member in Pearl Harbor Survivor Association and served as president of numerous chapters. Arnie truly lived life to the fullest and enjoyed traveling all around the world, he loved golf, food, music, teaching younger generations about Pearl Harbor by speaking at local schools, and veteran’s associations. After retirement Arnie and Lilly moved to Barefoot Bay Florida near the Atlantic Coast. The Schwichtenberg’s are a close family and Arnie spent the majority of his time surrounded by them and many people he loved. Arnie and Lilly were married for a total of 52 years and “Mamma” was his entire world. Arnie was a dedicated patriot who loved his country. He showcased this best when reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and giving his Flag Salute speech, where he proudly described the meaning of Old Glory. Arnie’s final Pledge of Allegiance and Flag Salute will be held on July 8, 2018 at the Elks Lodge in Sebastian, Florida. His remains will be taken to Pearl Harbor to be placed where the USS Trevor was attacked at a future date. Arnie will be greatly missed by everyone who loved him.
