Obituary of Ardeth Jean Miller
Ardeth J. Miller, age 87 of Viera, Florida passed away at home June 26, 2016 surrounded by her family. Ardeth leaves behind two sons, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Following a year in a local community college, she entered Michigan State University in 1947 with a major in foods and nutrition. Receiving her B.S. Degree in June of 1950. In September she started a one-year Internship at Harper Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
On January 6, 1951 Ardeth married James Miller whom she met and dated while at Michigan State. They moved to Pensacola, Florida in the summer of 1952 where she quickly obtained a job as a dietitian at Baptist Hospital where she initiated and directed a pioneering diabetic clinic.
In early 1960, the family, which now included two young boys, moved to Anaheim, California because her husband changed jobs. Following another job change the family moved to McLean, Virginia in the
summer of 1963 where they lived until 1980 except for about a year and a half in London, England.
During this period, Ardeth worked at several hospitals ultimately becoming the head dietitian at The Alexandra Virginia Hospital. In all of these jobs she was widely recognized as a superb professional dietitian and manager.
Later on she became a tax preparer for H&R B lock and a real estate agent in Virginia. In 1980 she and her husband moved to St. Petersburg, Florida and subsequently moved to the Florida Keys.
In 1994 the final move was to the Indian River Colony Club in Viera, Florida where she and her husband resided until her death.
Throughout her life she always made friends easily, and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and
even great grandmother. She was always a gracious hostess and outstanding cook. She authored a cookbook that was presented to her extended family. Throughout her life, including the tough times, she always maintained a good sense of humor.
