Keator family. I first met Gary when I was 8 years old and Gary was 12 and he lived on Grover St. and my parents just built a house on Sullivan Dr. nearly directly behind him. I had caught a bunch of fish in Belvidere Park and didn’t know how to clean them. He saw us in the backyard and wondered what was up to and my Mom told him and he came over immediately with a filet knife and cleaned all of them for free. Mom finally got him to take a dollar. It was 1956. We moved in there in Nov of 955 and my older brother who also played ball and was good was excited to see someone close in age to him. He was 1 year older than Gary but Jim was killed in May 956 so not much bonding time. Was in Coon Creek Casers with Gary also. always had a smile and story for me as he was a very friendly person. He’ll be missed. I could sit at Dooley’s Bar in Poplar Grove and he observed everything going on in the places he would break out laughing with a chuckle or make a comment to me. R.I.P. Gary.
