Obituary of Joseph F. Fruscella

Joe Fruscella went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 4, 2013. He was married to his wife, Jane, for nearly 53 fantastic years. Joe and Jane had two daughters, Freddi Woodford, married to David, and Joni Young, married to George. These two daughters and sons-in-law gave them 10 grandchildren, ranging from 24 down to twins who are 2! Joe was born in New York City on October 19, 1925. World War II started when Joe was 17, and he begged his father to sign for him, but, in his wisdom, his father refused. Joe joined the Navy shortly after his 18th birthday. He served on LST 32 as signalman. The ship ferried our troops from England to France, and POW’s from France to England. When the war in Europe was over, the LST returned to the states to be readied for the war in the Pacific. They only got as far as Virginia when Japan surrendered. They went to Green Cove Springs, Florida, where the ship was put in mothballs. Joe asked for an American flag from the ship, and it is still hanging in the home. Joe went to Stetson, graduating in 1951 with a degree in accounting. He eventually went to work for the Department of Defense as a Cost Price Analyst. He and Jane were married September 24, 1960, in Jacksonville, Florida. Both daughters were born in Jacksonville. Joe transferred to Atlanta, but longed to return to Florida, which the family did in 1968, living in Altamonte Springs for nearly 20 years. Joe retired in 1988, living in Barefoot Bay for nearly 25 years. He moved to Indian Harbour Beach in 2008, where he lived until he passed away. Joe was one of the sweetest, kindest people that ever lived. He loved helping people, especially children. He and Jane made 10 trips to Ecuador to visit and help poor families. They were fortunate enough to travel to many states, as well as many countries in Europe and South America. They sponsored nearly 25 children through Compassion International and Children International. The last check he wrote was to an orphanage in Nicaragua. He will be sorely missed, but it is so comforting to know he is at rest with Jesus. Feeding children in need was a great passion of Joseph and one of his favorite projects in his final days was helping a feeding center which is in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. This feeding center provides daily meals, schooling, the love of Jesus and biblical teaching for 500+ children who live and work in a nearby garbage dump. It is transforming many lives. The feeding center is operated by a ministry called the Orphan Network.
