Obituary of James Anthony Aliberti
ALIBERTI, JAMES ANTHONY, 78, passed away on December 10, 2019.
He was born March 26, 1941, in Rumford, Maine.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Mary Ann (Vincent) Aliberti.
He moved his family to the Space Coast of Florida in 1979 to pursue an aerospace career in a civil service capacity where he was employed by the National Aeronautic and Space Administration (NASA). He retired from NASA in 2006 after a combined lifetime credited service of 40 years.
Outside of work, Jim enjoyed spending his time coaching soccer, baseball and softball. Jim’s hobbies after retirement included photography and cruising.
Jim served his church (Church of Our Saviour) as a lead in the annual Parish fair and as a guiding member of the Parish Council. Jim’s positive outlook in everything that he encountered was embraced by all that he met. Jim is further remembered by family, friends and coworkers for his sense of humor, practical jokes and gag gifts.
Jim attended Bishop Moore High School and then graduated from West Virginia Tech with his Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering. Jim furthered his education by obtaining a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Rollins College.
Jim had several professional achievements to include manning the firing room for the first Space Shuttle Launch, numerous recognitions from annual Space Congresses and integral patent processes with universities and businesses.
He is survived by his sister Mary Olech and her husband Chuck, Southern Pines, NC; his brother Peter Aliberti, Gainesville; his son Greg Aliberti and his wife Susan, Viera; his daughter Suzanne Aliberti, Orlando; and his grandchildren, Vinny Aliberti and Steven Couch.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Church of Our Saviour, 5301 N Atlantic Ave, Cocoa Beach, Florida. An Interment of Ashes will immediately follow at the onsite memorial garden.
