Obituary of Major Donald C. Miller
Don Miller peacefully passed away at home on September 27, 2012 after nearly a yearGÇÖs courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Don loved his country, the Army, and his girls. His family includes his wife of 59 years, Judy, his high school sweetheart. His daughters are Terri Sullivan and her husband John, Brenda Howell, Vickie Miller, Donna Hecht and her husband Peter. Grandchildren are seven girls and three boys and the greats number six girls and two boys. He also has three brothers and one sister.
He was born in Madison, WI in 1934 and in high school in Annapolis MD, he entered the National Guard. He enlisted in the Army and tours of duty took him to Ft. Jackson, Ft. Knox, Berlin, Ft. Dix, Okinawa, Viet Nam, Ft. Hood, Ft. Benning , Dublin GA and finally Patrick AFB where he retired.
He was a Mustang, entering the service as enlisted and retiring with rank of Major. After retirement he worked in industrial sales and in various positions at the port dealing with the scallop trade.
He loved his job as a volunteer at the VA Center at Viera. Don never met a stranger. He also served as a board member on several committees at Suntree and most especially The Villas.
He is a long time member of the ROMEO club, Retired Old Men Eating Out. Each Friday they meet for breakfast and wear red shirts in support of the troops. You are encouraged to wear a red shirt if youGÇÖd like to the service. HeGÇÖd love it.
A service will be held on Thursday, October 4th at 12 noon at Suntree United Methodist Church, 7400 N. Wickham Road, Melbourne, FL 32940. with a reception immediately following.If you are so moved by your heart to have a memorial in his name, you are welcome to donate to the homeless program at Viera VA OPC, c/o Karen V.
